Trendy Tuesday: Floral

I really love all of the floral pattern that I am seeing around. I think it pulls from so many eras and is still very modern and fashion forward. Some florals are bohemian and almost 70s inspired while others may be tailored and more 40s inspired. No matter which era this print is leaning toward, it is always ultra feminine, flirty, and romantic. Just the right touch for a summer time girl to make her feel fun and beautiful.

16 Beach Street: A Vacation Slide Show

Ogunquit, Maine was the destination of my latest travels and it was wonderful. I have never been to the New England area and was absolutely blown away by this quaint little town.

We stayed at the 16 Beach Street bed and breakfast and if you ever happen to be in Ogunquit I would very highly recommend it. The innkeepers, Dick and Linda, were incredibly hospitable and made us feel right at home. Not to mention that the breakfast was to die for every single morning and they set out hot tea and some kind of delicious sweet treat every afternoon. AWESOME!

I was blown away by all of the gorgeous scenery in the New England area. Being from TX the plants and flowers have to be a lot more sturdy because it gets so hot, they have to be able to withstand the weather. In Ogunquit, there are delicate flowers like tulips blooming everywhere and our innkeepers told us the tulips would last most of the summer. In TX tulips are pretty for about 3 weeks ...

The B&B where we stayed was just about a block from the beach so we spent a lot of time by the water. It was cold so we weren't sun bathing and swimming but we did go for runs on the beach in the mornings and then we would walk on the "Marginal Way," which is a gorgeous paved walking trail that runs the complete length of the coast from Ogunquit Beach to Perkins Cove, all throughout the day.
We were most enthralled by the drastic differences between high tide and low tide. I have never been to a beach where the tides were several hundred feet different depending on whether it was low tide or high tide. We loved to go down in the afternoons and see that were we had run on the beach that morning was now one hundred feet or more from the start of the water.

If you have never had first hand experience with New England sea food, take it from me, you can believe all of the good things you have heard. I am not a huge sea food eater but the lobster and chowder in this part of the US is outstanding. It is all caught fresh everyday so when we ordered lobster it had literally been caught that same morning. YUM!

Surprise! Surprise! I am wearing my blue wedges yet again. I still can't get enough of them. They take an outfit that is fairly monochromatic and give a big punch of color. Love!

On our last full day, Dick drove us about 15 miles up the coast to another small town called Kennebunkport and we rented bikes and rode around the whole town. We stopped and had lunch right on the pier. We biked all through the residential areas and the more commercial parts of town. We rode all along the coast and got to see the place where George Bush Sr. and his wife summer. It was beautiful. It was 52 degrees that day so we were all bundled up in our cold weather work out gear but it was totally worth it. Riding a bike is a great way to really admire everything around you.

And now after a wonderfully relaxing trip and a crazy weather plane ride ... we are home and back to real life.

Trendy Tuesday: Jeffrey Campbell

If you don't already know about Jeffrey Campbell shoes you need to check them out. They are basically the most awesome shoes out there right now (in my opinion of course!). www.solestruck.com has a pretty good selection.

I the Wed

One year ago, today, I married the man of my dreams. I cannot believe it has already been a whole year! It went by so fast! Our wedding day was the best day of my life and I wish all the time that we could do it over again. The ceremony was perfect and the reception was a blast!! I couldn't have asked for anything more. I joke with Ryan all of the time and say "I want to get engaged" or "I want to have a wedding." Been there done that (Ha!) I am so lucky and blessed with my amazing family and friends. It's like my mom always says, "I thank GOD every day for plopping me down right where he did." I couldn't say it any better.

On a Jet Plane

I am going to be MIA for the next week. Ryan has planned a surprise vacation for our anniversary ... which is Sunday (CRAZY!).
I wasn't supposed to know where we are going until we got to the airport but last week we were at lunch and he accidentally let it slip. He was so mad. He has been keeping it a secret for 4 or 5 months and one week before he tells me. Oh well. I still don't know where exactly we are going and I have no clue what we will be doing once we get there.

Meet a Friend

There is this bench that is just on a corner in the middle of a neighborhood in the city where I live that says "Meet a Friend" on it.  It has this half circle rock walking path in front and is landscaped really pretty around it and everything. I think it is so cute. It doesn't seem to be on anybody's property but someone obviously owns it and keeps it up. I love to see stuff like this encouraging people to spend time together. So often I think we get all caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and forget to chill out and hang out with our loved ones.

Celebrity Style Icon

I don't generally talk about having a style icon because I feel like I don't have one particular style. One day I might be in the mood to wear dark skinny jeans and a button up shirt with black pumps and the next day I will feel like wearing the American Apparel tutu skirt that I have been coveting with my combat boots and a tank top. Who knows? I care nothing about fitting into a certain category. For me, fashion and clothes are about representing myself and my creativity along with my mood right that second.
That is why I think Gwen Stefani is an incredible style icon. She obviously follows current fashion and trends but she is always true to herself. She doesn't try to look like everyone else. She is fashion forward  but I like to think she dresses for herself and no one else.
Now, that doesn't mean that I love every single thing that she has ever worn and/or designed. All I am saying is that she is iconic in that her style is just that ... hers. I hope to always be as true to myself as she has been to herself through the years.

Lemon Drops and Gum Drops

" If all the rain drops were lemon drops and gum drops ... oh what a rain that would be"
"I would stand outside with my mouth open wide"
"Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!"
"If all the rain drops were lemon drops and gum drops ... oh what a rain that would be"

This pre-school song is very appropriate for the much needed rain we have been having. The fires have been tragic due to the lack of rain so, seeing it rain steadily for several hours was an answer to prayers all over the place.
I am one of those people who truly enjoys the rain. Ryan and I love to sleep with the windows open during a thunderstorm and I think the rain is so peaceful and calming. My dog, Zoey, does not agree. It would make her feel a lot calmer if there was never a thunderstorm again but too bad for her :) .
