Garage Plans

Shirt: BCBGeneration     Pants: Insight     Shoes: Seychelles
We are still in what people affectionately call our "starter home." Don't get me wrong, the house is great for us. It is cute and affordable and in an awesome location ... but it is pretty small. There are only two of us so small is fine. There just isn't any extra space. That is why my husband's "man room" is the garage. Ha!
I NEVER go out there. I mean seriously never. Not even once a month I don't think. It is detached from our house and neither of us park in it so I really have no reason to. But, I got inspired by this lurking object behind my house and thought I would brave the inside ... alone. No it's not really scary at all but you know what I mean.
The flag behind me is the Flag of Heroes. It has the names of all of the emergency services personnel who gave their lives during the 9/11 attacks.  My husband is a firefighter so this really means a lot to us. The first year we were dating we went to New York for a quick weekend right after Ryan's birthday. We were there the weekend of September 19. Since this was really soon after the anniversary of the terrorist attacks there were tons of flowers left all around the memorials by family members of those who lost their lives on 9/11. It was incredibly moving to be at the sight of the tragedy with a fireman who means the world to me looking at the memorials left for the emergency personnel who meant the world to their loved ones ... I can't even explain the emotions. My father-in-law was also a fireman and when he retired he gave his bunker gear to Ryan and we have that hanging in front of the Flag of Heroes. It is our way of honoring those brave men and women who gave their lives trying to save the lives of others.

Frost Yourself

Shirt: Gemma     Vest: Kimchi & Blue     Skirt: French Connection     Boots: Frye

Why hello Mr. Sunshine! How I have missed you ...
It has been gorgeous here for the past few days and I can't get enough of it. I want to hang out outside all the time. I am not wishing the cold away but I have to admit that 70 degrees with bright shiny sun is pretty much perfect.
I LOVE sequins for day. This skirt is perfect for daytime because of the frosty bright colors and for night time too because, well, it is sequined. The skirt makes a pretty good statement so I generally pair it with neutrals like this off-white blouse and grey vest and boots. I like the subtle added details that are brought in by the printed necklaces on the top and the patch work snake skin on the boots. Still very neutral but not plain

Feathered Frogs

Dress: Madison Marcus     Stole: Vintage     Shoes: Gianni Bini
My husband played baseball for the college we went to and the program has a banquet to kick off the season every year. So, this past weekend we got all dressed up and went to the banquet. It was a lot of fun. Several of our mutual friends were there and I know it is fun for Ryan to get to see all the guys he used to play ball with.
I bought this green Madison Marcus dress for my boss' wedding and I was excited to have another reason to wear it again. The feather detail on the shoulder is really cool.
This fur stole is a fun vintage piece that my mom and I found on a trip to Round Top. I don't wear it that often because it is not super warm and where I live there isn't really in between weather. But, luckily friday night it was! Woohoo

So, I challenge you all to spend today being thankful for all those people who enhance your life. I know I tend to take my loved ones for grated but today I am going to try to keep them all at the front of my mind to remember why they are all such important additions in my life. Happy day of L-O-V-E!

Decorated Elephant

My mom found this elephant piece for me a while back and I think it is super awesome. It is so unique and such a great decorative accent that lives on top of the desk in my office. I wasn't totally sure what I wanted to do with it but then I had a stroke of brilliance. I used to have all of my jewelry hanging on a bulletin board in the back of a closet .. . old house = not a lot of great storage space. So, I took some of it
and threw it all over this poor elephant.
Now he has a heavy load to bare. These are most of my day to day pieces. The ones that I don't have to think about and can just throw on. Don't get me wrong the bulletin board hanging in the back of a closet is still serving jewelry storage purposes but this is so much cooler don't you think?!

Hi Ho Hi Ho ...

Sweater: Joie     Skirt: Anne Segal     Boots: Steve Madden
... it's off to work I go. Coffee and overstuffed extra large bag in hand and another day is ahead of me. Twice a week I teach pre-school in the mornings before I head to the boutique where I work. Not only do those days start an hour and a half earlier but I have to wear something that is appropriate for sitting "criss-cross applesauce" on the floor singing Valentine's songs with babies and for working in a super cute boutique. So today I chose this. A long t-shirt material skirt with my combat boots and the most comfy cozy sweater I own.

Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey

I absolutely love to cook. When my sister got married she didn't know how to cook so my mom sent us to chef's school. I was 15 years old and completed chef's school with the certificate to prove it haha. But honestly it was so much fun and it made me realize how much I love to cook. Now I am confident that I can cook anything. Plus it was really fun to get to experience something like that with my sister.
At this point in my life one of my favorite times of day is to come home from work to my husband and my dogs, pour a glass of wine, slip into my house shoes, and cook dinner.
Sometimes (not too often because usually I am running around like a crazy person just trying leave the house on time) I cook breakfast for us. So here I am cooking eggs and sausage ready to head out the door for work.
My dress is a little gem I picked up a few years ago and wear all the time. The bright colors and intriquite print make it one of my favorite pieces. I love these shoes because the sort of mustardy tan color of them is a tiny bit quirky but still totally wearable. Paired with staple brown tights and my most comfortable leather jacket and I'm off to work.
