Broken Record

Dress: Peppermint
Shoes: Kenzie

We are possibly going to break record highs today and the A/C is broken at work. Currently it is 84 degrees and we are hoping it gets better but who knows. Needless to say I am glad I wore a thin dress today. At least I'm not in jeans and a top. I think I would honestly be dying.
On the bright side we have a good little fan that rotates back and forth on us so we have some excellent relief.

Fashionista at Five

I have an older sister, Audrey. But she isn't just my sister, she is also my best friend and the mother of half of my most favorite little rug rats in the world.

Her oldest child, Janey, was the first of all the kids. Audrey and I are really very different and the funny things is that Janey is just like me. From the second she was born my sister has joked that she is raising me. This is a little girl who has never met a tutu she didn't love. Seriously, she wears one every single day. She has been insisting on choosing her own outfits for a few years now. Fashion is just who she is. I love it!

For her 5th birthday my mom, sister and I took her to see the Beauty and the Beast play and she wore this Belle costume. It was perfect don't you think. When I got to their house so that we could go she said "Look what mommy and daddy got me! Don't I look beautiful?!" And of course she did!

This is just your normal outfit for preschool right?? Perfect for art time and playing outside if I do say so myself.

We took the kids to see a movie this day and she wore her hand painted Very Hungry Caterpillar shirt with her red tutu and sparkly tennies

I mean the girl even wears a tutu to sleep in. It is adorable! I want a tutu to wear with my pajamas. It's a sure fire way to feel glamourous even in your sleep.

I love watching her grow up and learning more and more about who she is. She is such a fun sweet little girl and I am head over heels for her and her fashionista ways :)

A few weeks ago she was at my parents' house and she went into the toy closet to change into some dress up clothes. She came out wearing a velvet geenie top and silk belly dancer pants. She struck a pose and announced "This looks good." Sound familiar to any of you fashion lovers out there?? Maybe you don't voice it like she does but honestly that is what fashion blogging is all about isn't it? We think what we are wearing looks good and we share it online to inspire and be inspired by each other.

Trendy Tuesday: Sporty

I have been completely neglecting my blog for the last week or so but honestly I am feeling more than uninspired lately. Well, actually that isn't true. I am inspired but it is all for cold weather ... and it is going to be somewhere around 95 degrees here in the lone star state today so sweaters aren't going to work. Unless I want to have a heat stroke. Which I don't. I am tired of all of my summer clothes. I look in my closet right now and I am bored of seeing all this stuff. So ... here is some trendy tuesdayness (not a word I realize) to further motivate me and hopefully you for fall/winter that I am hoping makes an appearance someday soon.

Happy Birthday Old Man :)

Today is RT's birthday! Wohoo! I love birthdays! He really isn't old at all but during the stretch between his birthday and mine he is four years older than me so I use that time to mercilessly tease him about how old he is. He is lucky ... I know!
So, to celebrate the day I thought I would post a little photo diary of the years we have spent together.

The very first picture we ever took

Picture Crasher

Yes I am wearing these booties again. I can't help it. I'm in love.
I feel like I wear monochromatic on a fairly regular basis. It takes exactly zero thought to throw on two pieces of black clothing and walk out the door looking totally chic and put together. I always just try to add a little pizzazz with my shoes and jewelry.
This morning was beautiful and I spent too much time enjoying breakfast and coffee on my back porch so I was in a hurry to get dressed and get out the door for work on time.
Oh hello Zoey :)

There's my little picture crasher again.
It is like a game of Where's Waldo with the dog (ha!)

Red White & Blue

I honestly cannot believe it is already the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. My mom always talks about how everyone she knows will always remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard that President Kennedy was shot. The same holds true for 9/11. I was in my freshman year of high school and I was sitting in my science class when the news channels started airing footage and reporting on the World Trade Center plane crashes. I remember all of us filling in as close as we could in the library so that we could see the television and watching in horror as the details of the attacks just kept getting worse and worse. People's parents started calling immediately. I don't know for sure but I think just about every person in my high school went home early that day. It was a day to be close to loved ones and to try and make sense of what was happening. No sense could be made I suppose.
Today I proudly wear red, white and blue to symbolize the land of the free, to show my support of our troops and to acknowledge this horrific anniversary.

RT's birthday is the 16th and a few years ago we went to NYC for the weekend of the 19th-21st to celebrate. He had never been to New York so we did a lot in those two days, one of which was to visit Ground Zero. To be there with a firefighter who is so near and dear to me made that experience completely heart breaking. Our visit was so soon after the anniversary that year and all kinds of flowers were laying all over the place. On the side of fire station no.10 we saw a man with his small son leaving flowers and his son asked him what they were doing and why he was crying. The dad replied that he was just saying hi to an old friend that he misses very much. I could not help but to cry myself. So many brave and innocent people were lost that day and I hurt for everyone of them and for all of those who love them.  My pictures from that trip are of horrible quality because our camera broke as we were trying to take our first picture of the weekend so we had to buy a disposable. Nevertheless here are some pictures we took at the fire station closest to ground zero.

A few weeks ago I was watching Live with Regis and Kelly and they showed a video of a soldier who gave his family a surprise homecoming at a MLB game. It was such a touching video. His wife and his two young daughters were so surprised and the entire family was sobbing. I wanted to post that video today but I can't because of copyright laws. When I looked for it I just went to you tube and searched "soldier surprises family at baseball game" he is kneeling on the ground at the beginning. Search it. It is so moving! I cannot imagine what it is like to have to say goodbye to a loved one as they are going to defend our country. They deserve every bit of respect and honor that could ever be bestowed upon them. I thank God every day that I live in the country that I do and that there are so many brave men and women who are willing to risk everything to defend our country. Thank You to all of the United States Armed Forces!! You are all amazing!

Eighties

Ok so I know that talking about the weather is really blahzay but it is one of the most exciting parts of my week so far. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating. RT took me out to dinner the other night and we waited 20 minutes to sit at a table outside even though there were tons of open tables inside. Which proves that I am not the only one who is excited about this weather. You just can't imagine what 85 feels like when it has been 105+ for the past three months!! I have been riding with my sunroof open and my windows down all week. The windows in our house are all open every morning and every night. It was 57 degrees when I left on my run with Zoey a few mornings ago. It is bliss I tell you. Pure bliss!
I bought this dress for our honeymoon and I love it. The color is really pretty and the fabric lends to either dress it up or down. I went for super casual with this cotton vest and my favorite flat sandals. It was the perfect outfit for a relaxed night out with RT.
Have a good weekend everyone!
